YuuMii Art Classes!

YuuMii WorkShop : Term 1

Finally, I have been providing art lessons for the local Home Ed Families, in particular, the Nurture Learning Gang! We are almost at the end of the first term, and we have covered 2-3 projects.

The goals that I have had have been to loosely follow the AUS National Syllabus, make it our own and get as messy as possible.

The lessons consist of two groups: Stage 1 (Fish and Sea Creatures) and Stage 2 (Insects and Dragons) children. These children were aged 6-12, this can be a challenge! Keeping the interest of the youngest and the oldest children is the hardest part. To do this, I keep to the general lesson plan and then tailor the lesson to suit the children that need encouragement.

Here are some of the images from the Term 1:

Creating our own Monsters, from Inspecting Insects, and Dissecting Dragons (St2) and Sea-Real Sea Creature parts (St1).

I will post the final works from the term in my next post. These children were amazing! I had such fun working with them, showing them some new techniques.

YuuMii : First Term 2014

As strange as it may seem - we are heading into the second year of our Home Education adventure. It’s been so enlightening, and I dare say - it seems to be getting… easier…?!

We are doing something slightly radical, in that we are sending our youngest off to Public School. This is for many reasons, most of all, family happiness. He needs some of his own friends in the area, I need to make some new ones, too. He is so active and enthusiastic to learn and make these new friends that we really didn’t have much of a say in it.

Did the older two children want it? NO WAY. They LOVE being at home. They love to drop him at the school, watch the other children head into class, as they head to the beach with books in their bike baskets. They do not miss it at all. If our new school-bound boy wants out, he’ll join in at home.

At home, we have eased into the routine of learning wonderfully, we had my mother in town for 2 months so travel and fun were on the forefront every week. Not much time to hit the books, but it did not stop us from grabbing a membership at the Aussie Museum (amazing!) and exploring all that Sydney had to offer this summer.

Alright, it’s Saturday so we gotta go surf!
